This policy explains what information JB by Design collects when you use this website, why it is collected, and the choices you have. JB by Design is operated by Jeffrey Blaszkowski, trading as JB by Design, a web design and build studio based in South East Queensland, Australia (ABN 41 107 123 006, PO Box 176, Oxenford QLD 4210). What I collect
When you complete the contact form I collect the details you provide: your name, email address, phone number if you add one, and the message you send. That is the only information you actively give me. The website’s host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) for security and reliability, as almost all websites do. If you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics collects anonymised information about how the site is used, such as which pages are viewed and roughly where visits come from. Analytics never runs until you have consented if you are visiting from the UK or the European Economic Area, and you can turn it off at any time.
Why I collect it and the legal basis
Contact details are used solely to reply to your enquiry and, if we go ahead, to discuss and deliver your project. Analytics is used to understand what is working on the site and to improve it. For visitors in the UK and EEA, the legal basis for handling your enquiry is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract and my legitimate interest in responding to you, and the legal basis for analytics and any marketing cookies is your consent. For visitors in Australia, information is handled in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988.
Cookies and analytics
This site uses a small number of cookies. The full detail, including how to change your choice at any time, is on the cookie policy page. In short: strictly necessary cookies keep the site working, analytics cookies are optional, and no advertising or marketing cookies are used unless you opt in.
Who I share it with
I do not sell your personal information and I do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. A few trusted service providers help run the site on my behalf: the website host (WordPress.com, operated by Automattic) stores the site and its data, Google provides analytics if you have consented, and my email provider delivers enquiry notifications. These providers may process data outside your home country, including in the United States. Where that happens for UK or EEA visitors, it is done under the safeguards those providers put in place. I may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long I keep it
Enquiry details are kept for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any project that follows, and for a reasonable period afterwards for business records, then removed. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ standard retention settings. Consent choices are remembered in your browser for up to six months, after which you will be asked again.
Your rights
You can ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct or delete it, and withdraw your consent to analytics at any time (use the cookie settings link in the footer). If you are in the UK or EEA you also have rights to restrict or object to certain processing and to data portability under the UK GDPR. To exercise any of these, contact me through the contact page. If you are not satisfied with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) in Australia, or to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) in the UK.
Security and changes
I take reasonable steps to keep your information secure, including serving the site over HTTPS and limiting who can access enquiry records. No website can promise perfect security, but I treat your information carefully. I may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top shows when it last changed.
