About Jeff

The real me, and the comic me.

I am Jeff Blaszkowski, and JB by Design is me. One person, from the first conversation to the site going live, and the one who looks after it afterwards.

The short version

Twenty years selling, then building.

I spent more than twenty years in business development, twelve of them in Queensland strata. Management rights support at Burleigh Tourism, onsite management, business development for a portfolio of more than forty hotels with Accor, then Smarter Communities and Bright & Duggan. I am a strata owner as well, so I have sat on both sides of the committee table.

All that time I kept seeing the same thing. Good businesses with websites that did not do them justice, and owners who could not find straight answers. So I started building. Strata Comparison came first, then Strata Check-In and Strata Tradies.

Now I build websites for other businesses too, and trades most of all. The same way I build my own: written for the people who actually buy, fast on a phone, and looked after once it is live.

The villains I fight

Every trade on a Character site gets its own villains. These are mine. They are the problems a website has, and every one of them costs a business work.

Cartoon villain Baron Boilerplate, a smug grey cardboard figure stamped out of a template

The template website. It looks like everyone else’s, so nobody remembers it.

Cartoon villain Scope Creep, a sneaky green vine creature sticking more blank notes onto a project board
Scope Creep

The job that never ends. One more page, one more change, and no launch date.

Cartoon villain The Buffer, a sleepy snail with a spinning loading ring for a shell
The Buffer

The slow site. By the time it loads on a phone, they have gone back to the search results.

Cartoon villain The Page Nine Ghost, a small lonely ghost hiding at the bottom of a tall stack of blank cards
The Page Nine Ghost

The site nobody can find. Built, launched, and buried where nobody looks.

Cartoon villain The Black Hole, a small swirling vortex swallowing paper envelopes
The Black Hole

The contact form that loses enquiries. Somebody filled it in. It never arrived.

Be the hero of your own website.

Every drawing of me on this page came from one photo. A Character site does the same for your business: your trade’s own comic world, its villains, and you as the hero, on a site built as seriously as any other I make.

Work with me

Let’s build something.

Tell me what you are working on and I will tell you how I would approach it. You will be talking to me, not a salesperson.
